Department of Economics

The department of Economics originally was a single-man department as student strength was negligible in 1983. The founder teacher of the department was Dr. Swabera Islam who continued to hold the post of head of the department till 2012.

The department has consistently shown good results over the years, especially in H.S. from 2014 onwards. For degree students also, there is a positive outcome and it is expected that in the near future there will be an overall improvement as faculty members are committed to giving their best service towards the growth of the department.

From this new academic session, i.e., from the year 2020-2021, the department got permission from Gauhati University to start BA (Hons.) course in Economics and B.Sc (Regular) course with the subject combination Economics-Mathematics-Statistics.
