Zero-Tolerance Policy

K.C. Das Commerce College strictly follows a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. Ragging is prohibited inside the College campus. The College adheres to the guidelines on ragging issued from time to time by the Supreme Court of India and University Grants Commission (UGC).

Objectives

The Anti-Ragging Committee is constituted to prevent ragging and to take anti-ragging measures as per the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court of India and the UGC. The Committee takes measures to repeatedly remind students of the consequences of ragging and ensures that parents and new students are made aware of their rights.

UGC Anti-Ragging Pledge

  • I will not indulge in any behaviour or act that may be constituted as ragging under clause 3 of the Regulations.
  • I will not participate in or abet or propagate through any act of commission or omission that may be constituted as ragging under clause 3 of the Regulations.

Clause 3 of UGC Act for Anti-Ragging

Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student.

What Constitutes Ragging?

  • a. Teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any student.
  • b. Rowdy or indiscipline activities causing annoyance, hardship or harm.
  • c. Acts generating shame, torment or embarrassment affecting physique or psyche.
  • d. Disruption of academic activity.
  • e. Exploiting services of fresher for academic tasks.
  • f. Financial extortion or burden.
  • g. Physical abuse including sexual or homosexual assault, stripping, obscene acts.
  • h. Verbal or online abuse including email, posts, public insults, deriving perverted pleasure.
  • i. Acts affecting mental health and self-confidence by showing power over a fresher or any student.

Prohibition and Eradication of Ragging Bill, 2019

This bill aims to prohibit and eradicate ragging in educational institutions across India.

  • Scope: Applies to all universities, deemed universities, and educational institutions.
  • Definition of Ragging: Includes conduct that causes teasing, embarrassment, or physical and psychological harm.
  • Offences: Rowdy behavior, disruption of academics, financial extortion, abuse (verbal, physical, sexual), etc.

The Act emphasizes protecting the dignity and mental well-being of students and outlines strict legal actions for offenders.
